No entry or ‘No straight ahead’

No entry or ‘No straight ahead’

You must not continue straight ahead into the road beyond this sign.

Regulatory Traffic Signs

What should you do?

Turn left or right as the layout allows and never drive straight on past the sign; if you find yourself facing it, choose another route.

How to recognise it

A red ring with a black upward arrow crossed by a red diagonal bar.

Common confusion

It is often confused with the red disc and white bar 'No entry' sign; both stop you going straight on, but this one uses an arrow symbol and is often paired with an exception plate.

Explanation written by the My Driving Test editorial team using the Department of Transport Traffic Signs Manual conventions and the RSA Rules of the Road.
