Cul-de-sac

Cul-de-sac

The road ahead is a dead end with no through route.

Advance Direction Signs

What should you do?

Only enter if your destination is on the road, and be ready to turn around safely at the end.

How to recognise it

A white square with a black T shape whose top bar is red.

Common confusion

The red bar shows the blocked end, so do not confuse it with a T-junction warning sign, which is a yellow diamond.

Explanation written by the My Driving Test editorial team using the Department of Transport Traffic Signs Manual conventions and the RSA Rules of the Road.
