Lane loss

Lane loss

This warning sign means the right-hand lane ends ahead and traffic must continue in the remaining lane. It is used before the road markings taper from two lanes to one.

What should you do?

Check your mirrors early, adjust your speed and move into the continuing lane only when there is a safe gap. Follow the lane markings and avoid a last-second merge.

How to recognise it

Look for a yellow diamond with two black lane lines: the right line curves into the straight left line, showing that the right-hand lane ends.

Common confusion

Lane loss is different from a road-narrows warning. Lane loss means a traffic lane ends; road narrows warns that the carriageway becomes narrower without necessarily changing the lane count.
