Drive on left

Drive on left

A reminder, aimed mainly at visiting drivers, that traffic in Ireland drives on the left-hand side of the road.

General Warning Signs

What should you do?

Keep to the left, especially when pulling out of car parks, petrol stations and junctions, and remember roundabouts are taken clockwise.

How to recognise it

Yellow rectangular sign headed ATTENTION / ACHTUNG, with a road diagram and the words Drive on left in English, French and German.

Common confusion

It is an information reminder, not the circular blue keep left sign, which is a regulatory order to pass on the left of an obstruction.

Explanation written by the My Driving Test editorial team using the Department of Transport Traffic Signs Manual conventions and the RSA Rules of the Road.
