Motorway

Motorway

An advance information sign on a motorway showing the destinations and routes available at the next exit, with the exit junction number and distance.

Advance Information Signs

What should you do?

Read the sign early, decide whether you need this exit and move into the left lane in good time.

How to recognise it

A blue rectangular sign with a black-boxed junction number, the M7 route straight ahead and a branch to R415 Kildare and Nurney, 1 km ahead.

Common confusion

The blue background tells you that you are on a motorway; the black-boxed number is the junction number, not a road number.

Explanation written by the My Driving Test editorial team using the Department of Transport Traffic Signs Manual conventions and the RSA Rules of the Road.
