Cancellation slots are short-notice tests

When a driving test is cancelled at short notice, the RSA can return that appointment to the MyRoadSafety portal. The RSA describes these appointments as limited, first-come-first-served short-notice tests rather than a separate cancellation waiting list.

How to check MyRoadSafety

Use the official portal rather than relying on a phone or email request.

• Sign up or log in to MyRoadSafety.
• Open My Goals and select View my steps.
• Scroll to Book driving test.
• Check the available appointment list; if necessary, use the location control to inspect other realistic centres.
• If nothing suitable appears, check again later because the RSA says slots are released every day.

Rules before you book

You must be eligible to sit the driving test. The RSA also states that a short-notice test cannot be cancelled or rescheduled after booking, so confirm the date, vehicle and supervising-driver arrangements before taking it.

• Valid learner permit and completed training requirements.
• A compliant, taxed, roadworthy vehicle.
• Valid proof that you are insured to drive the test vehicle.
• Enough time to practise the booked centre rather than arriving completely unfamiliar.

A cancellation is not the same as rescheduling

If you already hold a standard appointment, manage it through My Bookings. Current RSA rules allow a booking more than 10 days away to be rescheduled up to twice without losing the fee. A third change or a change within 10 days can cost the fee; a standard appointment cannot be rescheduled within two days.

Use waiting-time data without chasing a loophole

Compare nearby centre waiting times to understand demand, but do not switch solely because one centre looks faster. A date is only valuable if you can safely reach the centre, practise the local road environment and present a compliant car.

Before accepting a short-notice slot, verify the full test-day chain.

• Your instructor or accompanying driver is available.
• The vehicle displays L plates and meets RSA test requirements.
• Your learner permit, appointment details and insurance certificate are ready.
• You can complete a calm mock drive without repeated serious faults.
• You know the route to the centre and will arrive early.
